How We Take the Decision Overewhelm Out of Ordering Custom Window Treatments

Window treatments are both practical and a Luxury. We need them to provide necessary privacy as well as fulfill a design need. I will share the basics to help you order functional, aesthetically beautiful custom window coverings for your home with confidence!

Do you need help with where to start? What are the right kind of shades for your type of windows? How to create a cohesive flow from room to room? What do I need to spend? I address all of these during our initial consult. Here are a few steps of how to start planning for window treatments for your home.

Step #1: Understand Your Endless Options

Do you need help with where to start? Here are a couple questions I ask my clients:

  1. How much privacy and light control is needed? Also, do I want to see out, letting some light in the room or do I need room darkening?

  2. Are we are wanting to add a second fabric treatment for a design element to the window? For example, would the room benefit from side panels for added softness or texture?

My favorites for:

Privacy/ Light control - My go to solutions are Roller shades, Silhouettes or Pleated shades. These provide a basic foundation addressing the issue of privacy, light control an energy efficiency.

Softness and luxury - I love to add stationary side panels to the window. These do not move but add a tremendous amount of design whether it is a solid textural fabric or a print which serves as a focal point in the room creating another beautiful layer and design element.

Step #2: Explore Your Optional Add-Ons

With every custom window treatment, there are details which I can offer clients to make their shade or drapery look custom and provide the best finishing touch to their room. Motorization is the top choice for window coverings. Cordless shades are soon becoming the safest operating system after motorization. Color coordinating hardware, and top treatments are just a couple more ways to accessorize your window shades.

Love how these custom drapery side panels create a beautiful focal point while providing the perfect frame for this golf course view. Notice there are shades mounted in the frame for when light control is needed but not taking away from the view.

Step #3: Choose Your Exquisite Finishes

Finish options are endless when adding side panels or cornice boards to a window. We have beautiful fabric choices, trim details and many color options for drapery rods and finials as well as operating systems.

Hunter Douglas has the most diverse collection of window fashions - as well as widest variety of sizes, colors, operating systems and price points. They have a solution for hard-to-cover windows with their wide selection of beautiful designs. When it comes to coordinating shades from room to room, or motorization for hard to reach windows, no other shade company compares.

Educating my clients on the wide range of possibilities is my focus during our initial in-home consultation. I ask lots of questions to understand how the windows need to function for their family's needs. By providing them with options we easily can find a solution which will fit within any budget.
